‘All I got is a red guitar, three chords and the truth’. – Bob Dylan
I’ve used this line before and I’m doing it again, since I really love it. It is just so true. My student, Riley, is another great example of why I feel that way. When starting to play the guitar this past year, she quickly learned a few basic chords and some simple common strumming patterns. Admittedly she is gifted with a natural feel for music and rhythm, so from there she was also quickly able to put some vocals on top of that. She even performed the very first song, Marry You/Bruno Mars, that she had learned, at her uncle’s wedding. Needless to say, she brought quite a few people in the audience to tears, including me who watched it later on video. (Scroll down for that same video, it’s absolutely lovely and so brave!)
In this little clip she played me another song that she had learned, Jolene by Dolly Parton, although she was more inspired by Miley Cyrus’ version ;-). It shows she’s not only gifted with musicality, but also with a lovely voice and camera presence.
Hope you’ll enjoy it as much as I did!
